T HE TOWER . . .

A house with a story

Far above the meadows of the Hoeksche Waard towers a special structure: a robust water tower, built in 1914. This was once the place where Strijen's drinking water was stored. Today it is a place of peace, views and unique overnight stays. And now you are part of it.

From water to living

The tower was built over a hundred years ago to keep clean water under pressure for the houses in the area. The huge reservoir at the top could hold around 150,000 litres of water.

Made of stone, concrete and craftsmanship – and you can still feel it in every step and wall. During World War II, the tower took on a dark supporting role. Because of its expansive view, it was used by the Germans as a lookout post.

A dream of stone

Years later, the tower became empty. An imposing, abandoned building, waiting for a new chapter. And then Theo and Lenie Damen arrived. No big company, no project developer – just people with a dream: to live, reside and receive guests in a place where you can feel the past and literally hear the peace.

They lovingly and attentively transformed the tower into a place where old and new meet. Later, Bazz took over the tower and made the parts that had not yet been tackled habitable. The original stone walls, the old staircase to the roof and the concrete frame have all been preserved. But you will also find a modern kitchen, an atmospheric lounge and – on top – a roof terrace with a view that makes you silent.

Staying overnight with character

Here you don't just sleep in a room. You stay in a place with character, history and height - literally and figuratively. The thick walls keep the world outside for a while, while the round shapes embrace you. In the morning you hear the birds waking up below you, while you enjoy your coffee and the view above.

And if you look closely, you will see that something of history has remained everywhere: an old shutter as a table top, original structures in the wall, old pipes that have become lamps, or the cast iron staircase that now serves as a balustrade....

In the vicinity are cozy villages such as Oud-Beijerland and Numansdorp. Perfect for a relaxing discovery tour full of nice shops, cozy terraces and delicious restaurants where regional products play the leading role. Whether you like a good cup of coffee with homemade cake, a lunch with a view of the water or a culinary dinner - you will find it all here.

For nature lovers, the Hoeksche Waard offers endless possibilities. Directly opposite the tower in Strijen lies a beautiful forest, ideal for a refreshing 2.5 km walk. Fancy a bit more adventure? Then head out into the vast APL polder, where you have plenty of space for a long walk in the middle of nature.

Get on your bike and explore the island via winding dikes, waving reed fields and flowering orchards. Take the ferry to the island of Tiengemeten on the way – a true natural paradise where time seems to stand still. It is the place to spot wild Konik horses, blow out by the water and completely unwind.

T H E HOST . . .

Bazz is the owner and proud host of this great building. Purchased 28 years ago. 4 children grew up here and were able to play endlessly in this imaginative building. Children fly the nest and so there was a lot of space. How happy Bazz is with the use of the B&B is expressed by the pleasure he has had in creating everything. Creative solutions everywhere, handy adjustments, or clumsy constructions because you are dealing with a centuries-old building. "It is wonderful that so many people can enjoy the effort I have put into this chimney". Guests praise the "chill vibe", or the "good energy" that emanates from the building. Bazz feels that too, he is happy that he still feels it after 28 years. In his other life, Bazz gives music workshops and sings in the band Bazzookas that is conquering Europe and the world!
